Fit Together is a comprehensive statewide obesity prevention campaign funded by the NC HWTF and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. It emphasizes both the individual and community actions needed to prevent/reduce obesity and offers a practical resource families can use to prepare healthy meals, plan activities and promote long-term ways to get fit and stay fit. You can access information about local resources such as fitness programs, exercise facilities and counseling on nutrition and healthcare at www.FitTogetherNC.org.

The NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund was created by the General Assembly as one of 3 entities to invest North Carolina's portion of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. HWTF receives one-fourth of the state's tobacco settlement funds and invests in programs and partnerships to address access, prevention, education and research that help all North Carolinians achieve better health. For more information about the HWTF, visit www.healthwellnc.com. Obesity, especially among children, has emerged as a serious threat to our state's health. For facts and more information, read the report "Childhood Obesity in North Carolina".

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) earns a Fit City for Fit Families recognition for their dedication to modeling healthy foods and providing physical activity opportunities for students. Through a partnership with Fit Together, students in the After-School Enrichment Program taste a weekly fruit or vegetable they’ve prepared three different ways and rate it on a yum to yuck scale. Recipes are sent home to encourage incorporation into the family meals and snacks. In addition, students in this program receive 30 minutes of daily aerobic activity. Non-competitive games and walking programs are incorporated to ensure all students and staff can participate.

The Child Nutrition Services department provides healthy foods through an array of whole-grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and lean meats. Check out these foods on the Child Nutrition Services menu and print the Healthy Student Calendar for fun, family fitness tips!
